Encountering the Lord with St. Francis of Assisi: a Lenten retreat guided by the life and words of the Little Poor Man; the Poverelllo. This great saint encourages us to proceed along the journey of life with simplicity and humility for in poverty he discovered true riches. In the Spirit of St. Francis we will encounter the Presence of the Lord revealed in the Scriptures and the Sacraments; we will receive light where there is darkness, healing where there is pain, and hope where there is despair.
Join us on April 4th, 5th, and 6th for an inspirational message, Eucharistic Adoration, led meditation and music, with an opportunity for Sacramental Confession, and a healing service.
Morning sessions will begin with 9am Daily Mass
Evening sessions will begin at 7:00pm.
Both morning and evening sessions will feature the same content.
Fr. Luke Leighton, CFR, is a Franciscan Friar of the Renewal who's been preaching the Gospel and serving the needs of the poor 'in the margins' - first in the Bronx, New York, and now in Oakland - for over 15 years.
After a conversion experience in high school that led him to the Sacraments of Initiation at age 15, he also discerned a call from the Lord to the priesthood. After reflection, prayer, studies, and living life with the friars, he was ordained a priest by His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan at St. Patrick's Cathedral in May of 2013, and is grateful for his vocation every day.
Don't let Fr. Luke's calm and peaceful demeanor fool you, though. He has a soul on fire for the Lord, a mind ready for life's tough questions, and a heart that wants to know yours - and he's been known to absolutely shred on the ski slopes.
