“Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.” (CCC 2226)
Before a teen is accepted into the Confirmation program, the teen and parent(s) will meet with the Youth Minister or one of the priests to go over expectations for the year. More information will be given to families when you come in to register.
YOUTH ALPHA
Your Small Group's journey starts with Youth Alpha, an awesome video series that explores big ideas about life, faith and meaning. It's designed to let you ask the questions that matter to you, and to encourage you feel comfortable sharing your own ideas. Ask anything.
Purpose
After Youth Alpha your discipleship group will transition into Purpose. Here you will learn all about our faith and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
FOCUS Bible Studies
Finally, in the weeks leading up to Confirmation Day your small group will begin studying the bible directly, using FOCUS Bible Studies. The time you spend with a bible in your hands will shape who you are as a follower of Jesus. We will give you everything you need to study the bible, even after Confirmation Day.
Our hope is that your small group will continue to meet and study the bible together as long as you are in the area (so like, all of high school and beyond). This is your church family, after all. It doesn't end on Confirmation Day.
Attendance at weekly Sunday Mass. However, once a month we want the entire Confirmation family to worship together. On those mandatory Sundays, teen and parent/family are required to attend a 3:00pm mass
A monthly parent meeting, following the monthly Mass. Parents will gather to learn more about our faith and what their teens are learning, while the teens meet with their groups.
Teens will complete 10 service hours each year
Teens cannot miss more than 3 classes. If they miss 3, they will need to do a make-up class. If they miss 4, even with the make-up class, they will need to repeat the year.
Teens will learn to serve in our Liturgical Ministries and serve at Mass.
In the first year, there is attendance at one-day Retreat at a local location (December 2, 2023). In the second year, there is attendance required at a 2-night weekend retreat (November 10-12, 2023)
