High school youth group & confirmation preparation are integrated into the same program so that teens have the opportunity to be active and involved beyond recieving the sacrament and throughouthigh school.
Teens can begin our youth ministry program any time once they have entered high school. Confirmation preparation is a 2 year process in which teens meet twice a month on Sundays from October until May. On the Sundays where we do not gather for Confirmation prep we meet for youth group where all teens are welcomed. While Confirmation preparation is focused on learning about the Church and what it means to be Catholic, youth group is focused on developing a Catholic conscience for real world situations.
We also accommodate teens who may need to prepare for other Sacraments (Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation) while they are in our program.
Because of our large program, our youth ministry focused on the building up of small group
communities. Though we all come together to share a meal and learn, our small groups are where
all of the sharing happens and an intimate community is built.
Our philosophy is to meet teens where they are and to lead them into a real encounter with Christ. Through learning, service, & community it is our goal to help our teens develop a sense of love and
justice for others as they go out into the world and find their place in the church.
Other youth ministry opportunities:
Core: There would be no ministry without the dedicated team of adult Core who come each week
to teach and learn with our teens. If you are interested in this ministry, let’s talk!
Junior Core: High school and college teens who have already received confirmation can join our
Jr. Core team. Junior Core are trained during the summer so that during the youth ministry year
they can co-facilitate small groups & help lead and plan youth group activities.
Service: There are various service opportunities throughout the year both here at the parish and
off site. We gather on the first Saturday of the month to help at St. Vincent de Paul in Pittsburg.
